Potosi

DSC04748

This is the second highest city in the world; it's on 4200mts over the sea. Is advisable to take pills or coca before arrive to avoid evil height otherwise you will feel very sick if you are not wonted to the altitude.

For arrive from Sucre you can take some buses with good frequency in a dirty and rustic terminal far of the city center. Trasntin Dil Rey is the most recommended bus service for that route. Furthermore of the ticket bus price, you need to paid a tax to use the terminal.

Before the bus reaches in the Potosi Terminal you can get down a few blocks near the city center. This is a good idea because if you arrive in terminal you need to take a taxi to the center in other hand you need only walk seven blocks.

When I arrived expected to find a poor city with people sleeping in the street and hungry people as the journalists had written it in chronicles of the decline of the imperial village. On the contrary of that apocalyptic vision I found a beautiful and interesting city with a lot of tourists and students for everywhere, people selling regional products, touristic stores, churches and other colonial buildings.

In the horizon we can see the symbol of the Spanish domains, the hill of Cerro Rico. Here the Spaniards used the local people for work in mines and extraction silver. Thanks to this metal the city was growing per years around the mountain and many people died inside too.
